Tips for submitting a nomination for Prestige Awards
THINKING OF SUBMITTING A PRESTIGE AWARD NOMINATION BUT NOT SURE HOW TO MAKE YOUR NOMINATION STAND OUT?
WE CAN HELP!
Do you have to be a member of STC to submit a PRESTIGE Award nomination?
To submit a PRESTIGE Award nomination, you must be a member of STC whose account is in good standing.
How to write a compelling nomination.
In order for your nomination to stand out amongst the many others we receive, you must explain and include evidence and clear examples of what makes your event or nominee so exceptional. Don’t just say your event or candidate is outstanding – prove it!
You can do this by using specific and concrete examples to illustrate how your event or nominee meets each of the eligibility and award criteria. Pay close attention to the value attributed to each response on the nomination form.
WHERE AND WHEN DOES SPORT EVENTS CONGRESS TAKE PLACE?
Sport Events Congress has typically always been hosted in the spring. Past host cities include Winnipeg, Richmond, Edmonton, Ottawa, Halifax, Gatineau and Toronto. There is a bidding process in place for hosting SEC.
Keep it simple.
Remember that longer doesn’t necessarily mean better. When completing your nomination, keep your explanations clear and to the point while ensuring there is enough information for the Adjudication Committee to make their decision. Point form is encouraged.
Give different perspectives.
Remember to describe what is outstanding about your event or nominee, and use language that demonstrates vividly and precisely how and why your nomination is deserving of a PRESTIGE Award. To paint a more complete picture of your event or nominee, it helps to include comments and testimonials from multiple people who were involved in the event execution or are familiar with the candidate being nominated.
What gets measured, gets recognized.
Metrics and data help quantify the success of your event. Economic impact, social and earned media analytics (eg. the event generated 5,000 Facebook shares and 500 re-Tweets), measurements related to environmental initiatives (eg. the event achieved 80% waste diversion), volunteerism (eg. 2,500 volunteers were involved in the event) and post-event statistics (eg. 60% of attendees indicated it was their first visit to the host city) are all ways to illustrate the unique qualities and success stories about your event.
Can I submit multiple nominations?
With 10 Awards across eight categories, there is a good chance that your event will meet the criteria for multiple awards. Read the guidelines carefully and nominate your event in all categories that apply. Self-nominations are permitted and encouraged.
Are there new guidelines and Award categories this year?
Yes, STC has revamped the guidelines and the nomination form has been streamlined. We have also added 3 new categories this year – Event Partnership, Industry Champion and Marquee Sport Event. Unlike in previous years, an event can be homegrown or manufactured – it is not necessary to “win” a bid competition in order for your event to qualify for an award.
Ready to nominate.
We hope you have found these tips useful. If you are now ready to nominate an event or candidate, prepare in advance and give yourself lots of time to complete the nomination. Start by visiting the STC website, reading the guidelines, and gathering the required information such as the event budget, a short description of the event, image of the event or nominee, etc. This will make the process of completing your nomination easier and more efficient. The deadline to submit your nominations is January 5, 2025. This year’s awards recognize events and achievements that occurred in 2024.
