If you’re ready to showcase your region, highlight facilities and local activities, and welcome over 400 enthusiastic sport tourism professionals to your destination, then it’s time to host Sport Events Congress (SEC). The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) is now accepting bid submissions to host its annual conference in 2018 and 2020.

Past events have been hosted at:

  • River Rock Casino & Resort in Richmond, BC
  • Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Toronto, Ontario
  • Westin Hotel in Ottawa, Ontario
  • Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec
  • Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta
  • Toronto Sheraton Centre, Toronto, Ontario

Canada’s largest annual gathering of sport, tourism professionals, event management firms and suppliers to the sport tourism industry has generated economic activity in the host communities ranging from $1.07 million to $1.63 million in recent years.

Here’s what other destinations have said about the opportunity to host Sport Events Congress:

“Edmonton Events couldn’t pass up the chance to bid on and host SEC. Hosting SEC gives a city the rare opportunity to host dozens of national rights holders for multiple days to showcase all that your city can offer to an event.  Edmonton Events had a great experience working with the CSTA staff and appreciated being able to put our own stamp on the CSTA hospitality events.”

Lindsay Harrison, Manager, Edmonton Events at Edmonton Tourism

“Ottawa has proudly hosted SEC most recently in 2016 and will host again in 2017—as part of Ottawa’s year-round celebration of Canada’s 150th anniversary—and in 2019. Hosting the key stakeholders in Canadian sport tourism for important education, networking and B2B opportunities is an excellent way to showcase Ottawa’s infrastructure and partners to decision-makers from across the country; there is no substitute for this personal experience of a destination. Our partnership with CSTA is an important component in Ottawa Tourism’s “Bid More, Win More, Host More” strategy, supported by our Mayor.”

Michael Crockatt, President & CEO, Ottawa Tourism

The two-step bid process will take place between May 13, 2016 and December 15, 2016.  Details on the bid guidelines and the bid process are now available online.  For more information contact Krista Benoit, Executive Director, Marketing & Events at kbenoit@canadiansporttourism.com or 819-682-5298.
