CSTA’s 2018 GSI Canada Index – Call for Participation
Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) members are invited to participate in the 2018 Global Sport Impact (GSI) Canada Index. Developed in collaboration with Sportcal, a leading sport market intelligence agency based in London, UK, the results of the initial GSI Canada Index were announced in March of 2018. It is an evidence-based, data-driven tool that demonstrates cities’ attractiveness as host destinations and ultimately increases Canadian capacity to attract and host sport tourism events.
This assessment reflects national championships and international events hosted and planned in communities across Canada. Also beginning this year, National Sport Organizations (NSO) will have the opportunity to submit a report for their national championships.
Results will allow cities, governments and events rights holders to better understand the impacts generated by sport events, and to plan bidding and hosting strategies even more effectively.
How it Works
Members of CSTA complete their Sport Tourism Annual Report (STAR) online (Excel format with 5 tabs) which will be independently analyzed by the team at Sportcal. All information will be kept confidential and results will be segmented according to CSTA membership categories by the population of host communities.
Based on the input provided, each host city receives a score and ranking within their respective membership category. The index and rankings are announced annually at Sport Events Congress (SEC). The 2019 announcement will take place at SEC19 in Ottawa, March 19-21, 2019 in these categories:
- GSI Canada Index (All Events)
- Canadian Sport Event Cities Index by population (overall)
- Cities over 500,000 population
- Cities over 150,000 and under 500,000 population
- Cities over 50,000 and under 150,000 population
- Cities under 50,000 population
