Sport Calgary – CALGARY, Alberta — Sport Calgary joins with Calgary Sport Tourism Authority to celebrate Calgary’s placement on the shortlist of cities contending for the “Ultimate Sports City” Award. The nomination and shortlisting is a testament to the work that Calgary Sport Tourism has done and continues to do to establish Calgary as a destination for sport. Calgary is competing with nine other cities for the designation, including London, Los Angeles, Melbourne, New York and Tokyo.
“This recognition is well-deserved”, said Murray Sigler, Executive Director and CEO of Sport Calgary, “both for Calgary and for the Calgary Sport Tourism Authority, whose tireless work makes Calgary a perennial destination for national and international sport events.”
In addition to being one of the ten finalists for Ultimate Sports City, Calgary is also shortlisted in several other awards categories.
The last time Sport Business held the awards was in 2014, when Calgary was designated Canada’s Ultimate Sports City (5th globally), and won world’s Best “Small” Sport City. Calgary was the only city shortlisted in all ten awards categories that year, including Hosting, Event Strategy, Sports Tourism, and Legacy.
We look forward to the announcement of this year’s winners in April at the SportAccord Convention in Lausanne, Switzerland
