Sherbrooke, September 11, 2014 – The Host Society of the Canada Summer Games–Sherbrooke 2013 may well receive a final honour. Yesterday it was named among the finalists in the Event of the Year category for the 2014 Canadian Tourism Awards, which will be presented in Ottawa in November.

It will be a tight race as the Canada Summer Games–Sherbrooke 2013 is competing with Montreal’s Mosaïcultures, the 300th anniversary of the town of Louisbourg in Nova Scotia, and Alberta’s Tourism Canmore Kananaskis.

The four contenders will be judged specifically on visitor reception, innovation, economic impact, and the legacy they leave behind for the host community. The Canada Summer Games–Sherbrooke 2013 organization’s accomplishments in all of these areas have been a source of great pride in the host community.

“Each new opportunity to submit an application comes with its own share of work and it seemed last June, when applications were due with the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, that we had pretty well made the rounds, already having been the recipient of several awards, of which we were very proud,” said Lynn Blouin, Deputy CEO, Communications and Human Resources, “but when we saw the criteria on which the jury’s choice would be based, we said we couldn’t pass up this opportunity.”

Taking on the best on the Canadian scene is also extremely rewarding for both the architects of this great achievement and the event’s partners from near and far who contributed to its success.

Last April, the Host Society received the Prestige Award for the Sustainable Sport Event of the Year from the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance.

The Canadian Tourism Awards are presented annually by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada to recognize success, leadership, and innovation in Canada’s tourism industry, and to reward the people, places, organizations, and events that have gone above and beyond to offer superior tourism experiences in Canada.

The awards will be presented on November 26 at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa.
